REA: WSMC Round #1 (1/18-19)

Hello all! I had another fun packed and interesting weekend aboard the Ascot. I had redone the top end adding a cam, spring kit w/Ti keepers and head porting so the thing actually accelerated on the top end and really had some umph down low. But, best of all, it didn't spring any oil fountains.

It was chilly to say the least but it was also mostly sunny both days. Frost on the ground and a REAL cold track surface made the first sessions somewhat hazardous but as the days wore on, things starting to feel pretty good. My times improved during sat practice and I looked forward to sundays races.....

Race #1 for me was the 500 Singles. I was the first guy into T1 and 2nd out. By T3 I was in 3rd place where I stayed for the remainder of the race. Last month, those guys dissapeared the first lap, this time, I stayed about 100' behind matching their speed but couldn't catch up. As the 4th lap came up, they started to pull away and I couldn't do anything but watch....... Third doesn't suck, I was WAY ahead of the 4th place guy.

Race #2 was Formula Singles and I was 3rd into T1 and by the 2nd lap I held on to 5th position. I looked back B-4 diving into T1 on the 3rd lap and noone was there. Cool! Cruizing along about to turn into T8 and BBBUUUUURRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrapppappppappitybapbapbap. HUH? Pull in the clutch and she dies and my weekend is over. Blew a head gasket, guess I was wringing it out a bit too much. Not used to keeping it under 8K being used to the 13.5K redline of my 750. Oh well. More work for me B-4 next weekend......
